Guiding Principles

  • The interest of our users drives all decisions and actions of our committee
  • We represent all Miriam Home and Services clientele in a non discriminatory manner which is fundamental to respecting the institution’s users as a whole, be they in-patients or not.
  • We value and respect cooperation based on trust between the members of the users’ committee, the members of the in-patients’ committees, the institution’s managers and all other people involved, which is essential to effective concerted action on behalf of our users.
  • The autonomy of the users’ committee and in-patients’ committees is crucial in carrying our mandate and functions. We determine our own objectives and priorities for action however, our autonomy is not absolute. Our committee is accountable to the users that we represent, and since we are a committee of the Miriam Home and Services institution, we also answer to the institution’s board of directors.
  • Respect for confidentiality is strictly enforced within users’ committee proceedings. Our members act responsibly to ensure that the personal information to which they have access to remains confidential. To that end, each committee member takes an oath of confidentiality.
